Copal is Not Baltic Amber

A quick online search shows you many jewelry items that are listed as copal amber jewelry. Copal is anywhere from several decades to thousands of years. It is too young to be called amber. In geological terms, a million years is but a fleeting moment and so the inclusions contained in these young copals are species of contemporary plants and animals.

Sculptures and jewelry made from copal quickly lose their smooth surfaces, and if not clearly marked as such, are marketed as Baltic Amber fakes. In Zoria we only use Baltic Amber pieces that are millions of years old.
